The Met is open until 9:00 on Friday nights- a good time to go. You can get a glass of wine in the rotunda (show up early for a seat). A live classical trio is playing. The hall is massive, so the music echoes through this great gathering place.
The galleries are relatively crowd-free at this time. Try the courtyard in the American Wing - beautiful. I have a crush on the caryatid below. When it's a girl holding stuff up, it's a 'caryatid', when it's a boy, it's a 'telemond'.
I find this squatting creature amusing- he's in the Indian Art galleries.
Nearby is this statue of Ganesha- people leave him little offerings. This day he got some change, a piece of a plant, a pen, and a guitar pick.
