Harlem has its mansions too.

 

 

Two beautiful mansions take up the entire north side of the block between Frederick Douglass Blvd. and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.

 

 

 

   
  The one shown above was built by a Mr. Benziger in 1890, 'when this part of Manhattan resembled a country village', as the plaque out front says. It looks like it could be in a posh Chicago neighborhood.  
 
 
 
 
   
 

 

P.T.Barnum is one of New York's most famous entrepreneurs, but as you can see from the building below, his partner James Bailey did alright for himself too.

 

 
   

 

 

 

He built this pile in the 1880s. It was a funeral home for a long time, but I noticed that they took down the business signs recently. Maybe Trump's turning it into condos.
